What is Lutheran Homes of Michigan?
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Michigan, through the Lutheran Homes of Michigan, cares for seniors.
Lutheran Homes of Michigan has been serving the aging and their families with Christ-centered care and support for more than 100 years. We are a faith-based, non-profit entity. We frequently partner with other non-profits to deliver care and services to seniors, their families and their caregivers.
We deliver that care and service with housing for active seniors, affordable apartments, condominiums, home care services, independent living, assisted living and skilled-care facilities throughout the the state.
Does Lutheran Homes of Michigan only serve Lutherans?
No. We serve people of all races, creeds, religions and backgrounds. And we employ people from all different walks of life, as well.
What makes a Lutheran Home skilled-care facility different from other nursing homes?
Each Lutheran Home is built around a chapel which provides a worship center for residents, family and friends.
Here the gospel message can be shared and the spiritual life of the residents and their families can be nurtured and strengthened.
The aesthetics of each home provides a warm, caring environment for each resident. Christ-centered volunteer support by partnering congregations greatly enhances the quality of service and care at each home.
What makes a Lutheran Homes senior living campus, condo or apartment building different from similar facilities on the market?
Again, our services are not just faith-based, they are Christ-based. We seek the best possible life for seniors of all ages. Our values aren't just a slogan; it's how we try to live our lives, personally and professionally and as Christ's servants on earth.
How can I find out more about what Lutheran Homes of Michigan offers?
This Web site is your first and best resource to see all that we offer. As you explore it, you will see contact information for our campuses and ministries for more specific questions. Our corporate office and director of communication can also assist on more general questions.
How are the Lutheran Homes supported and how are they funded?
Money generated from the services provided (i.e. Medicaid/Medicare, fees) supports the day-to-day operation of the organization.
Lutheran Homes of Michigan counts on additional donations from donors and volunteers, like you, to go over and above the basic costs of daily care. That money flows through the LHM Foundation, for specific campuses and ministries or for unrestricted use.
Contributions of time and money from congregation members allow for enhancement in the quality of care for all residents.
Lutheran Homes of Michigan does not use voluntary contributions for daily operational costs.
How can I personally support Lutheran Homes of Michigan?
First things first — through prayer! We would ask you to please pray for our residents, clients, caregivers, staff and volunteers.
Secondly, you can help by becoming personally involved at a Lutheran Homes campus or ministry. Our volunteers enhance and improve the lives of our residents and clients in ways large and small. Any way you assist as a volunteer — short term or long term — is most appreciated!
Thirdly, please consider making a financial contribution. Typically, these flow through the LHM Foundation. Donations can be directed to particular campuses or ministries, or left unrestricted for exciting new initiatives Lutheran Homes of Michigan undertakes to serve seniors better. For more on that, see the Donate section of this site, where you can download forms, or make a donation online.
What if I have non-cash gifts I would like to donate?
This is an excellent, God-pleasing (and often tax-saving!) way to support our vital ministries.
Many people have stocks or property which has appreciated in value over the years. Designating these items for donation directly, or through other estate-planning tools, is an excellent way to support this ministry.
This type of gift can be of great benefit to both Lutheran Homes and the donor.
Again, the Donate section of this site is a great place to start. Contact our development director for different ways donors have arranged non-cash gifts.
How does a congregation or auxillary become a member of the Lutheran Homes of Michigan Association?
A congregation can become a member of the Lutheran Home Association by authorizing a resolution to pledge support of LHM at a congregational meeting. A member from the congregation will be assigned to be the representative to the association and encourage other members to become involved.
